The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
