Whenever a significant honors show nears, you'll find a clamor to include fresh award types to honor unsung work and satisfy the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
- A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
